Chris Barneycastle is the owner and president of Barneycastle Forestry Services. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia in 1976 and is a certified arborist (SO-2913A) and a registered forester (Georgia – #1422). He is also qualified by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources as a consultant for Environmentally Sensitive Property determination.
Barneycastle began his arboriculture career as an urban forester with the Georgia Forestry Commission working in the metro Atlanta area. Barneycastle has also served as Executive Director of the Arkansas and Georgia Forestry Associations. He began his consulting business in 2002 and has provided advice and assistance to numerous residential, commercial, and municipal clients on shade tree problems, tree value appraisals, compliance with city and county tree ordinances, expert witness testimony, tree hazard evaluations, tree inventories, etc. He has also conducted several educational and training workshops.
Barneycastle is a member of the International Society of Arboriculture, Society of American Foresters (past chairman of Chattahoochee Chapter), Georgia Tree Council, and the Georgia Arborist Association (GAA). He is a past GAA president and was the 2018 recipient of the GAA’s Kim Coder lifetime achievement award. He currently serves as chairman of Gwinnett County Tree Advisory Committee.
